Membership /

NAPHIT's membership includes IT leaders from State, Territory, and Local public health agencies as well as from other organizations and individuals interested in public health IT.

Types of Members
NAPHIT has two categories of membership: voting and non-voting. Within these two categories are several different types of memberships. Please review the categories below to see which membership type best suits you or your organization, and visit our benefits page to learn about the benefits associated with each membership type.

Voting Membership
Voting members shall have voting rights and shall be limited to Health Department Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Directors of Information Technology (IT), and their designees. The three types of voting memberships include State Public Health Department, Voting - Health Department Individual, and Local Public Health Department (with four levels, according to population served).
  • State Public Health Department ($500/three members). This membership type is for salaried staff of state or territorial health departments in the United States who are professionally engaged in public health information technology management, development, operations, or policy. This membership entitles the health department to appoint three individuals as NAPHIT voting members. Typically these members include the CIO or IT Director, along with two designees.

*This membership type provides the option of purchasing memberships in the Non-voting - Additional Health Department Individual membership type; however, as the name indicates, these additional members would not receive voting privileges.

  • Voting - Health Department Individual ($200) This membership type is for salaried staff of state and territorial health departments in the United States who are professionally engaged in public health information technology management, development, operations, or policy. This membership type is designed for and permits health departments that have policy, rule, and/or funding restrictions, or that are too small in size to purchase a standard State Public Health Department membership. In such cases, the health department must first request this membership level before registering (send requests to info@naphit.org). Upon review of the request, the NAPHIT Executive Committee can offer a maximum of two individual memberships to health department staff. Such members are granted voting rights.

  • Local Public Health Department Memberships (Size of Population Served Determines Fee and Number of Members)
    • Population 500,000+ ($500/three members)
    • Population 300,000 - 499,999 ($250/one member)
    • Population 100,000 - 299,999 ($100/one member)
    • Population 0 - 99,999 ($75/one member)
These memberships are for salaried staff of city, county, or regional health departments in the United States who are professionally engaged in public health information technology management, development, operations, or policy. These memberships entitle the health department to the specified number of individuals as NAPHIT voting members. Typically these members include the CIO or IT Director and/or their designee(s).

    * These memberships provide the option of purchasing memberships in the Non-voting - Additional Health Department Individual membership type; however, as the name indicates, these additional members would not receive voting privileges.
Non-voting Membership
Non-voting members shall not have voting rights and shall consist of Non-voting - Additional Health Department Individual, Consultant/Individual, Non-profit Organization, Student, and Corporate memberships.

  • Non-voting - Additional Health Department Individual ($200). This membership is designed for state public health departments who wish to have more than three individuals engaged in NAPHIT activities. Health departments must first pay the State Public Health Department membership dues, and can then purchase an unlimited number of Non-voting - Additional Health Department Individual. As indicated by the membership name, these members do not have voting privileges, and may not hold officer positions in the organization.

  • Consultant/Individual ($200). This membership type shall be limited to consultants or individuals who are not staff in public health departments who are interested in furthering improvements to the management and oversight of public health IT. This membership tends to be for organizations with 10 or fewer employees or individual consultants, but could also be an individual who simply has an interest in public health IT.

  • Non-profit Organization ($300). This membership type shall be limited to non-profit organizations with an interest in furthering improvements to the management and oversight of public health IT.

  • Student Members ($50). Student Membership shall be limited to individual persons in undergraduate or graduate studies with an interest in public health information systems.

  • Corporate Members. Corporate Membership shall be limited to corporations or for-profit businesses with an interest in furthering improvements to the management and oversight of public health information systems. Corporate Membership entitles a corporation to designate one primary contact person as a non-voting member of the Association.
    • Platinum ($10,000) and Gold ($5000). Platinum and Gold level memberships are for large, viable corporations that have offices worldwide and consult in multiple industries.
    • Silver ($3000). Silver level memberships tend to be for mid-level sized firms who see great value in contributing to NAPHIT, wish to have more of their employees participate in NAPHIT activities, but are not capable of contributing at the higher levels.
    • Bronze ($1500). Bronze level memberships are reserved for smaller companies, to provide them with an opportunity to make a nominal investment in NAPHIT.
